Survey Historical Results
Migrating Common Nighthawks have been reported in the survey area as early as July 30 and as late as September 21, however the bulk of the birds move thru during the second half of August. The chart below shows the cumulative number of nighthawks that have been seen on each calendar day during the 2003 thru 2010 surveys.

The number of survey participants and field time has grown annual since the survey has started in 2003. In recent years, this has closely tracked the total number of nighthawks observed. The believe is that this can be attributed to our greater experience in observing this species in migration, but we will have to see if this trend continues in future years.

The chart below shows the year-by-year daily nighthawk tallys. Note the variation in the peak migration days between the different years.
